Set the source of nutrient data for brand name foods (AusBrands)

For each commercial food product in the AusBrands data source, you can control whether its nutrient data is sourced from the nutrition information panel (NIP) on the product's label, or from AusFoods, or from a mix of both.

To control the source of nutrient data for AusBrands foods:

1. On the File menu, click Database Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Source of Nutrient Data for AusBrands Poducts, select the appropriate option (see below).

Options:

Your options are to source the nutrient data for AusBrands foods from:

• AusFoods, with sodium from NIP - Use the nutrient data from AusFoods for all nutrients (ignoring the NIP on the product label) except for sodium (which is drawn from the NIP). .
• NIP and AusFoods - Use the nutrient data from the NIP, and extend this with nutrient data from AusFoods for other nutrients.
• NIP only - Use the nutrient data from the NIP only.
• AusFoods only - Use the nutrient data from AusFoods ignoring the NIP

Notes

• FoodWorks 8 used the default option,AusFoods, with sodium from NIP.
• AusBrands is a FoodWorks data source and contains nutrient data for a wide range of commercial food products currently sold in Australian supermarkets. AusBrands includes data compiled directly from the product labels for nutrients such as energy, protein, total fat, saturated fat, carbohydrate, sugars and sodium. In addition, AusBrands products have been linked to an appropriate food in AusFoods to derive an approximate nutrient profile for nutrients available in AusFoods.
• AusFoods is a FoodWorks data source containing an expanded set of food descriptions that derive their nutrient data from AUSNUT 2011-13, including the nutrient/component extensions. You can think of AusFoods as a user-friendly ‘wrapper’ to AUSNUT. The food descriptions are designed to be comprehensive and easy-to-use and understand, making AusFoods suitable for analysing dietary intake data.
• For more information about AusFoods or AusBrands, in the Database Properties dialog, click Food Selections, then click AusFoods or AusBrands. Information about the data source is displayed on the right.
